About the Military Service Initiative

The Bush Center honors the sacrifices our troops and their families make for our freedom and helps improve the impact of organizations supporting our veterans and active military.  Inspired by the courage and bravery of those who have volunteered to wear our nation’s uniform, the Military Service Initiative highlights and places an enduring spotlight on all those who serve and sacrifice to defend our freedom and heralds the many organizations who give their time, talents and resources to support these men and women.

Two annual events of the Military Service Initiative emphasize the importance of sports like mountain biking and golf to the rehabilitation process for many of those seriously injured on the front lines.

•   WARRIOR 100K RIDE

On April 26-28, 2012, 20 servicemen and women wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan joined President George W. Bush for the second annual Warrior 100K (W100) ride, a demanding 100 kilometer mountain bike ride in Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Amarillo, Texas. The W100 highlights the bravery and physical strength of the warriors wounded in the global war on terror, as well as those organizations that have made continuing commitments to supporting America’s heroes.
